Who We Are: Boston’s Tenth was started by a group of passionate Boston Red Sox fans. Although many of us live in Los Angeles now, we were all born and raised in Massachusetts and grew up with Red Sox Baseball in our blood from day one. From the stories our parents told us about Ted Williams and the ’46 Red Sox, to the Impossible Dream, to the highs and lows of the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s and finally to the most incredible postseason in baseball history in 2004 and the follow up championship in 2007, we have been and always will be die hard Red Sox fans.

About Our Name: Boston’s Tenth is short for Boston’s Tenth Man, which is you, the fan. We chose this name from the famous - and lucky - Dropkick Murphys’ song, “Tessie.” Specifically, from the line “Boston’s Tenth Man cannot be wrong.”

“Tessie” dates back to 1903. It was originally featured in a Broadway musical, and the song was later adopted by the Royal Rooters, a group of loyal Boston fans led by “Nuff Ced McGreevy,” owner of the local Third Base Saloon. With the intent of annoying the visiting team, it’s believed to have helped the then Boston Americans beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and win the first World Series for the Boston Red Sox franchise.

Five championships later, the Royal Rooters stopped singing “Tessie” in 1918 and the Red Sox went 86 years without a World Series title. In 2004, the Dropkick Murphys recorded a cover of the song, and said it was their intent to “bring back the spirit of the Rooters and to put the Red Sox back on top."

After the greatest comeback in the history of sports, it is believed that “Tessie” somehow played a part in the Red Sox winning. Being believers ourselves, and big fans of the song, we thought Boston’s Tenth would be a great name for our company.

Boston's Tenth are a big reason the Red Sox are able to dominate at Fenway Park and have the resources to acquire and keep top talent.
